Professional Profile

Prof Dr M.A. Wajid is an Internationally renowned Orthopedic Surgeon working as Head of Orthopedics Surgery at National Hospital & Medical Centre, DHA, Lahore. Prof Wajid was trained in the UK and undertook specialist fellowship training in Germany and Belgium.

He is the chairman of AOTrauma Middle East Board, member of AOTrauma International Board Switzerland and founding chairman of AOTrauma Pakistan.
Due to his untiring efforts, AO Foundation Switzerland (one of the largest non-profit Trauma organization in the world) has approved AOTrauma Pakistan country chapter. Due to this, since 2003, all AOTrauma courses are regularly conducted in Pakistan under his chairmanship.

He was elected as Member Board of Trustees of AO Foundation – the first surgeon from Pakistan to represent the country.

Under his leadership, his unit is the only recognized unit for AOTrauma fellowship in Pakistan, where surgeons from abroad come to learn and receive training in advanced orthopedic surgery procedures. He has facilitated many orthopedic surgeons to secure AO Fellowships to go abroad and learn latest techniques.

In his department, all kinds of arthroscopic procedures, joint replacement surgery and trauma surgery are performed. Prof M A Wajid is one of the pioneers of arthroscopic surgery of shoulder and hip in the country including arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, hip arthroscopic procedures and has published on this subject.

He has a special interest in arthroscopic knee ligament surgery both ACL and PCL (Anterior & Posterior Cruciate Ligament) reconstruction as well as menisceal repair and autologous cartilage transplant (OATS) for focal cartilage defects.
Prof M A Wajid is very actively involved in under and posts graduate Orthopedic training of doctors. He is a paper setter, examiner, and supervisor of FCPS (Orth) final examinations for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. He was appointed examiner of Royal College of Surgeons in 2006.
